After a very emotional week for Home and Away fans, Felicity Newman’s life support was finally turned off last night after she suffered a brain aneurysm.
Jacqui Purvis, who played Felicity, told Yahoo Lifestyle last week that while she absolutely loved her time working on the show, it was the right time for her to depart the soap. “I’ve had an incredible time on the show. Some of the best years of my life,” she said. “However, I knew I wanted an international career, so, I had to make the decision to leave and take the plunge.”
Fans have been left devastated by the decision however, with many saying Jacqui is one of the best actresses the show has seen in recent years. “I’m going to miss her. She was the right mix of beautiful, cheeky, annoying, smart, vulnerable, loving, caring and painful all rolled into one. Good luck on whatever you do next. Hoping to see you back on a screen soon,” one fan said. “She is a great actress and played her part very well,” another agreed.
Although Home and Away fans knew the sad goodbye was coming, last night’s emotional episode left fans in tears once again, after Cash (Nicholas Cartwright), Eden (Stephanie Panozzo) and Tane (Ethan Browne) all said their goodbyes to Flick, with the last scene playing out showing Tane doing an emotional haka in memory of his ex-wife.
There wasn’t a dry eye in many people’s houses, with many Home and Away fans saying the storyline was the saddest one they’ve seen.
“Tane was so powerful at the end,” one person commented in a fan group, with many agreeing. “That Haka was something else,” another person said.
“This has to be the saddest episode I’ve ever seen on Home and Away. Great acting by all,” one fan commented. “I take my hat off to all of the actors that were involved in tonight’s episode brilliant acting by all, this has to be the saddest death and Tane at the end was so powerful,” another fan reiterated.
“I definitely cleared my sinuses tonight. I was bawling. This storyline was the saddest,” someone else said.
Home and Away fans commend show for important message
The show focused on the importance of organ donation, with Cash making the decision to donate Felicity’s organs after they turned off her life support.
After one fan commented that the scene had to be the “saddest death”, another shared they were glad the show had promoted organ donation. “I lost my mate three months ago exactly the same, so glad they promoted organ donation,” they commented.
“I’m glad all the doctors and nurses stood and said goodbye,” another fan said.
