Grief took over social media after news of former mega boyband One Direction member Liam Payne’s sudden demise at 31 years old.
Fans, celebrities, and the music industry expressed their shock and grief over the death of Liam, posting tributes for the late British singer online.
In an Instagram story, Charlie Puth reminisced working with Liam. The two worked together for the late singer’s 2017 single “Bedroom Floor.”
“Liam was always so kind to me. He was one of the first major artists I got to work with. I can not believe he is gone,”said Charlie.
Paris Hilton, meanwhile, wrote in an X post: “So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones.”
Disc jockey Zedd also wrote on X: “RIP Liam. Can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking.”
“Just talked to you 2 days ago my guy,” rapper Ty Dolla $ign wrote on his Instagram Story. “Ima miss u fr fr sucio,” he added.
According to a report from the Associated Press, local police in Buenos Aires said the British singer died after falling from a third floor of a hotel in Palermo on Wednesday.
In a statement, Buenos Aires police said Liam fell from a hotel balcony, leaving him with “extremely serious injuries.”
The report added that police rushed to the hotel after an emergency call about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” and found Liam’s body at the hotel courtyard.
Authorities are conducting an autopsy and investigating whether Liam’s fall was intentional or accidental.
Liam rose to fame after debuting as member of One Direction, formed through reality singing competition show “The X Factor” in 2010, alongside Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson.
The five-piece band who’s behind the hit songs “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life,” among others, would later announce their hiatus after Zayn’s exit in 2015.
Liam, just like the remaining members, went on to embark on their solo careers. The singer released his platinum-selling single “Strip That Down” in 2019.
